An MLO (Mortgage Loan Originator) license is required by Florida state law for anyone who takes residential mortgage loan applications or negotiates residential mortgage loan terms in Florida. This requirement is mandated by the SAFE Act and Florida state regulations to ensure consumer protection and industry professionalism. All mortgage license applications, amendments and renewal filings must now be filed through Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). This Florida MLO license is required for an individual who, directly or indirectly, solicits or offers to solicit a mortgage loan, accepts or offers to accept an application for a mortgage loan, negotiates or offers to negotiate the terms or conditions of a new or existing mortgage loan on behalf of a borrower or lender, processes a mortgage loan application, or negotiates or offers to negotiate the sale of an existing mortgage loan to a non-institutional investor for compensation or gain in the state of Florida. The term includes the activities of a loan originator as defined by the federal S.A.F.E. Act.

FL MLO Pre-Licensure Education: Completion of 22 hours of an NMLS approved pre-licensure education course, of which a minimum of 2 hours shall cover the provisions of Florida Law and Rules.
